On Sunday, August 23, Dr. James J. Klubnik, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jim was born in Los Angeles, California in 1935. Jim trusted in Christ at Forest Home Christian Camp at age 17. He graduated Bellflower High School prior to attending Long Beach City College. At UCLA, he sang in the S.A.E. quartet, winning first place in Spring Sing at the Hollywood Bowl for three years. While attending U.C.L.A., Jim was discipled by Dr. Bill Bright, president of Campus Crusade for Christ. He later met his future wife, Peggi, at a Campus Crusade meeting. They were married in 1959 at Berachah Church in Houston.
Jim was a pastor for over thirty years, including nine years as Minister of Youth at the Church of the Open Door in Los Angeles, pastored by Dr. J. Vernon McGee. He then served as pastor of Grace Bible Church in Houston as well as Minnetex Community Church. After leaving the full-time pastorate, he served as an interim pastor for 13 years at five different churches.
In 1974, Jim was invited to start the weekly Questions and Answers program on KHCB 105.7 FM, which he continued to host for over 42 years. He also broadcast a Sunday morning Bible study for over six years. From 1979 to 2013, Jim served as an adjunct professor at the College of Biblical Studies. He also taught several small group Bible studies in the Houston area. He recently taught an adult Bible class at Sagemont Church,
In 1984, Jim and Peggi began a ministry behind the Iron Curtain at the invitation of Campus Crusade for Christ and Eastern European Seminary. Being of Russian dissent, his desire was to minister in the Soviet Union. In 1990, he began an underground Bible-teaching and evangelistic ministry in Moscow, later ministering in 22 Russian cities for eighteen years. Over the years, Jim’s teaching ministry took him to over 20 countries.
A graduate of U.C.L.A. in political science, Jim also held the Master of Theology and the Doctor of Ministries from Dallas Theological Seminary.
Jim’s Bible-teaching legacy will continue through their website: www.biblicalresources.org. The website features a rich collection of articles, sermons, charts and diagrams, as well as some detailed answers to many questions that have been asked over the years on his live, call-in radio program aired on the KHCB Radio Network. Jim’s wife, Peggi, will be editing many of the sermons and Bible studies that Jim as given over his fifty-three years of ministry in order to upload them to the website. She will also continue to add more articles and studies that she authors.
On a personal note, Jim loved spending time with his family, camping, horseback riding, boating, biking, singing and playing the piano. Having majored in Greek, he continued to study the Bible in both Greek and Hebrew throughout his ministry. His life-long passion was studying God’s Word, and sharing his personal faith in Jesus Christ.
Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peggi; his son Jon and wife Tiffany, and their children, Allie, Kyle and Andrew; his son Tod and wife Kimberly, and their children, Carson, Riley, Reed and Cade. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Ann Klubnik, his brother Don, and his grandsons, Michael and Jake Klubnik.
